Year 5 Courses - WEMT

Year 5 WEMT Course Outline

Year 5 (in 2025) Term 1 courses are designed to ensure that students meet the high academic standards expected for the 2025 NAPLAN and the 2026 selective school and independent school scholarship exam. Starting in Term 1, Year 5 students will have access to new NAPLAN (NTTC). These trial test courses will teach students how to manage their time effectively, reduce mistakes, and perform their best on the NAPLAN test. 

 

Kickstart your preparation with this intensive course, crafted to enhance your reading, writing, mathematics, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, equipping you to meet the high standards of these challenging exams. Year 5 WEMT Course Content

The Year 5 Term 1 WEMT is carefully designed to prepare students for the high academic standards expected at this stage of their education.

The writing module will teach students how to organise their writing in the most efficient way possible, and how to struture and organise your writing persuasively.

 

 

English module; Develop techniques to tackle challenging texts and ace multiple-choice questions with confidence. 

 

The mathematics module; Gain a solid understanding of mathematical concepts, formulas, problem-solving techniques.

The Mind-stimulating thinking skills; Challenge yourself with engaging exercises to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Year 5 NAPLAN Trial Test Course (NTTC)

Get your child ready for the 2025 NAPLAN tests with our six-week NAPLAN Trial Test Course (NTTC), starting 25th of January 2025. The NAPLAN Trial Test Course will give students the chance to:

​

  • Practice NAPLAN style questions under exam conditions

  • Learn how to manage their test time efficiently.

  • Overcome exam nerves and minimise errors.

  • Build their confidence to succeed in the NAPLAN tests.

​​

The tests will be computer-based test (CBT) format. Students will be provided with the testing device in class and complete their trial test online.

Year 5 Thinking Skills Advanced Course

The "Thinking Skills Advanced" Course is specially designed to foster the development of problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, equipping our students with the necessary skills for success in their academic journey and ultimately, for the selective high school placement test.

 

With comprehensive focus on preparing them for the selective exam thinking skills component, the course will cover a diverse array of essential topics. 

Year 5 Thinking Skills Advanced Course Outline

The course aims to provide students with the tools and techniques to approach challenges with confidence and creativity.

Through engaging activities and thought-provoking exercises, our dedicated teacher will guide the students on their path to becoming proficient critical thinkers. 

​

Students will learn effective problem-solving skills to tackle complex issues in various subjects. 

​

Students will be encouraged to analyse, evaluate, and draw reasoned conclusions from the information they encounter. 

​

As students develop their thinking skills, they will gain confidence in their abilities to excel academically. 

​

The course is open to Year 5 and 6 students who are aiming for the selective school placement and will cover essential topics to equip them with necessary knowledge for the thinking skills test.
