Are you a Year 6 parent looking to confidently support your child as they move into high school? Our brand-new 6/7 Course is specially designed to help students step into Year 7 with confidence, readiness, and a strong academic foundation. This program gives students a powerful head start, easing the shift from primary to high school and helping them feel prepared from day one.
The transition to Year 7 brings new subjects, higher expectations, and more independent learning. Our course equips students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset they need to navigate these changes smoothly. With structured lessons, supportive guidance, and targeted practice, students develop the habits and abilities that set them up for long-term success.
Year 6/7 Course Outline
6/7 English:
Students begin the term by exploring procedural texts, focusing on the instructions and directions used in everyday life. They then move into the study of myths and legends, discovering stories that have influenced cultures across generations. From there, students examine explanation texts, learning how writers clearly communicate processes and ideas. Building on these skills, they engage with feature articles, more detailed and in-depth explanatory texts commonly found in magazines and online. The unit then shifts to visual texts, where students analyse how images convey meaning. The term concludes with persuasive writing, as students develop the ability to influence and engage their audience.

6/7 Mathematics:
Students will build confidence in mathematics as they strengthen their number skills and explore fractions, decimals, percentages, integers, and early algebra. Through a sequence of engaging modules, they will develop strong problem-solving skills and make connections between different number forms. They begin with number systems and fractions, then extend their learning to decimals and percentages, including real world applications. They will also work with positve and negative numbers, mixed calculations, and the building blocks of numbers. An extension module offers additional challenge, before students move into algebraic thinking and apply their skills to real-world and geometric problems. The term concludes with a review to consolidate learning and prepare students for Year 7.

Y6 Selective High School Transfer Entry in 2028 (Selective Transfer Foundation Course)
A new Selective Transfer Foundation Course (STFC) will be offered from Term 4 for Year 6 students considering a move to another Selective High School or seeking new entry in 2028.
Across ten weekly three-hour lessons, students develop foundational skills in Written Expression, Reading Comprehesion, Mathematics and the reasoning areas assessed in HAST and Edutest.
The revised course uses subject-focused lesson days rather than changing between several subjects within every lesson. This allows students to learn each skill in greater depth, complete guided and independent practice, and build confidence before progressing to more intensive examination preparation.
What are HAST and Edutest?
HAST (Higher Ability Selection Test) and Edutest are specilaised assessments used by a number of selective entry schools to identify students suitable for entry into Years 8-11.
The principal HAST assessment areas include Reading Comprehension, Mathematical Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning and Written Expression. Edutest assessments may include Verbal Reasoning, Numerical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics and Written Expression.
Do Students Need Training for the HAST/Edutest exam?
Training for the HAST and Edutest is strongly recommended, as focused preparation significantly improves performance. These exams are designed to be challenging, requiring speed, accuracy, and strong reasoning under pressure, so even high-achieving students can struggle without prior exposure. Effective preparation builds confidence, strengthens weaker areas, and helps students feel ready on test day.
